To convert Word to PDF, choose a .docx file, set the page size (A4, Letter or Legal), orientation and margins, then select Convert to PDF. The PDF is created in your browser and downloads immediately.
For pixel-perfect results with headers, footers, columns, custom fonts or Hindi text — or for old .doc files — use High-fidelity (server) mode, which converts with a full office engine.
How to use the Word to PDF
-
1
Choose the Word file
Select a .docx document (up to 25 MB).
-
2
Set page options
Pick A4, Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, and margins in millimetres.
-
3
Convert
Select “Convert to PDF” and download the result.
How it works
The browser mode reads the document’s structure — headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and images — converts it to HTML, and lays it out on PDF pages with your chosen size and margins. Text stays real, selectable text. Because it re-flows the content, the page breaks may differ from Word’s.
High-fidelity mode sends the file to our server and a document engine (via CloudConvert) that renders it the way Word does, including headers, footers and exact fonts.

Limitations
- Browser mode re-flows text, so page breaks and some spacing can differ from Word.
- Headers, footers, text boxes, footnotes and some fonts are simplified in browser mode.
- Browser mode lays the document out like a web page and saves each page as an image with a searchable text layer, so files are larger than server-mode PDFs.
Troubleshooting
- Old .doc file isn’t accepted
- Use high-fidelity mode, or open it in Word and save as .docx first.
- Layout looks different from Word
- Switch to high-fidelity mode for an exact match.
- I need text that stays as real, selectable text
- Use high-fidelity (server) mode, which converts with Word-compatible fonts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Word to PDF without losing formatting?
Use high-fidelity (server) mode — it renders the document like Word, including headers, footers and fonts. Browser mode keeps the content and structure but re-flows the layout.
Is the Word to PDF converter free?
Yes. Browser mode is unlimited. High-fidelity mode includes a free daily allowance, then 1 credit per file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Choose the .docx from your files app; the PDF downloads to your device.
Is my document uploaded?
Not in browser mode. High-fidelity mode uploads it over HTTPS and deletes it automatically within an hour.
