How it works

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². WHO adult categories: under 18.5 underweight; 18.5–24.9 healthy; 25–29.9 overweight; 30 and above obesity. For South Asian adults, Indian health guidance often uses lower cut-offs (overweight from 23, obesity from 25), because health risks rise at lower BMI.

Features

  • Metric and imperial

  • Healthy range for your height

Examples

70 kg and 175 cm: 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.9 (healthy weight).

Limitations

  • BMI doesn’t distinguish muscle from fat, and isn’t designed for children, pregnancy or athletes. It’s a screening measure, not a diagnosis — consult a doctor about your health.
