To test a password’s strength, type it in the box. You’ll see a rating, an entropy estimate, how long a guessing attack might take, which character types it uses, and specific problems such as keyboard patterns, repeated characters, years or common passwords.

How it works
Entropy is estimated from length and the character types used, then reduced for predictable patterns: common passwords (including simple letter-number substitutions like p@ssw0rd), keyboard runs (qwer, 1234), repeated characters, years, and the very common “Word123!” shape. Crack times assume 100 guesses per second for an online attack and 10 billion per second for an offline attack on a fast hash.
Features
-
Pattern detection
-
Two attack scenarios
-
No network
The password never leaves the page.
Privacy and file handling
- Where it runs
- Runs in your browser
Runs entirely in your browser. Your files and text are not uploaded to our servers.
Limitations
- Estimates are approximate; real attackers use lists of leaked passwords that can crack “strong-looking” passwords that were used elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to type my real password here?
The check runs entirely in your browser with no network requests. Still, prefer testing similar passwords rather than ones you actively use.
