To remove a password from a PDF, choose the file, type the password you use to open it, and select Unlock PDF. You’ll get an identical copy without the password, so it opens directly and can be printed, merged or edited.
Use this only for documents you own or have permission to change — for example, bank statements protected with your date of birth.
How to use the PDF Unlocker
-
1
Choose the protected PDF
Up to 50 MB.
-
2
Enter its password
Leave empty if the PDF opens without a password but has print or copy restrictions.
-
3
Unlock and download
Save the unlocked copy.
How it works
The tool decrypts the PDF with the password you provide and saves it again without encryption. Text, images and quality are unchanged — nothing is converted to images. If the file uses encryption the browser can’t handle, server mode re-writes it with Ghostscript.

Limitations
- You must know the password — this tool does not crack or guess passwords.
- Some rare encryption types require server mode.
Troubleshooting
- “That password is incorrect”
- Check capitalisation and date formats. Bank statements often use a combination like your name’s first letters and date of birth.
- “Encryption isn’t supported in the browser”
- Switch to server mode.
Frequently asked questions
Can this remove a password I don’t know?
No. You need the password that opens the PDF. The tool removes it so you don’t need to type it again.
Is it legal to unlock a PDF?
It’s fine for your own documents or with the owner’s permission. Don’t unlock documents you’re not authorised to change.
Will the quality change?
No. The document is saved without encryption; content is untouched.
Is my password sent anywhere?
Not in browser mode. In server mode the password is used only for that conversion and deleted with the file.
